The process of creating a content managed website involves a number of key steps. These steps will take you through inital setup through to ongoing maintenance and monitoring.
To install Yendo you will first need to purchase a suitable hosting environment. This environment is the place where your website files will be hosted. To host Yendo the environment needs to be Microsoft Windows 2003 with IIS 6.0, ASP.NET and MS SQL Server 2005 or 2008
If you want complete control of how your website is installed and configured then you should choose 'Virtual Dedicated' hosting otherwise standards shared hosting will suffice.
With a suitable hosting plan in place you will then need to download the Yendo software from Sourceforge. After downloading the software you will need to follow the instructions on the Yendo Wiki to complete the setup.
You will now need to create the basic design templates for your website. To do this you will more than likely need the assistance of a web designer who will firstly design the look of the website and will then provide you with HTML templates from which the complete site can be created.
When you have the templates you will need to log into the Yendo control panel (please see the wiki for further details on this) to update the website design templates.
You should now have a 'shell' website installed on your hosting environment. The next step is to input the actual website content (text and images) that your website will use. This can all be done through the Yendo control panel and no technical knowledge is required to do this.
With all the website content in place you now need to publish your website to the outside world.
Firstly you need to ensure that all content is 'approved' in the control panel and secondly you will need to redirect your domain name to the new hosting environment.
To redirect your domain name you will need to ask the organisation you registered the domain with to change the 'A' record for your domain to the IP address of your hosting environment. This IP address is typically included in the confirmation email that you would have received when you purchased the hosting.
When this is done you website is complete!
On an ongoing basis is it useful to get reports on how your website is performing.
These reports will typically be able to tell you what traffic your website is receiving and where this traffic is coming from .
A number of plugins are available for Yendo that can assist you in getting this information. Currently two plugins are available. The first is an analytics module that will display information about traffic levels on your site and the second is a search engine optimisation module that will help you improve your ranking on the major search engines.
